Hello everyone!
This is Daily Bible Verses first ever devotional! The goal for these devotionals is to encourage and strengthen the body of Christ. The bible tells us to "encourage one another and build each other up" (1 Thessalonians 5:11). This is the goal of these devotionals and I hope that it does encourage and build us all up in the Lord Jesus Christ!
Every Monday of the week, a devotional will be released. It will have a bible verse, interpretation, application, and guiding questions at the end.
BIBLE VERSE: Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. - Philippians 2:1-4
INTERPRETATION & APPLICATION: The verses that we will highlight today is Philippians 2:3-4. This is a Kingdom principle that Jesus brings into the world, that we are no longer to think of ourselves first, but to value others above ourselves. The sinful human nature of man is to think of self first, to satisfy our needs and interests first, and to see ourselves exalted above others. The Kingdom that Jesus brought to earth is one that breaks down this way of living and introduces what our attitudes towards ourselves and others should be.
This Kingdom principle is that we are not to live for our own sinful ambitions - which only glorify ourselves and not God - but we are to live value and serve others. While we are serving others, Jesus says we become great in the kingdom of Heaven. While we may not gain greatness in this world by serving, we will be elevated greatly in the Kingdom of God! I encourage you to have the mindset that Jesus Christ had, not looking to exalt himself, but only to glorify his Father (John 5:30, John 8:50).
QUESTIONS:
What is the attitude that I have towards others? What is the attitude I have towards myself?
What are areas in my life where I have let selfish ambition / vain conceit takeover?
Do I want to be great in the worldly Kingdom of in the Kingdom of God?
